Palace on the Water was the summer residence of King Stanislaw August Poniatowski, founded in 1775. Its contemporary shape, including the side wings and the annexes linked by colonnades on the bridges over the canal, was created in 1793 according to the project by Dominic Merlini. The palace was decorated by painters Marcello Baciarelli and Jan Bogumil Piersch and sculptors Andrzej Le Brun and Jakub Monaldi. Today it is one of the most excellent works of Polish architectural classicism.
