The Lazienki Royal Park. The park traces its origins back to the Middle Ages when it belonged to the Mazovian Dukes. In the 17th century the park was the property of the Polish crown. The park's glory days came in the 18th century when King Stanislaw Poniatowski commissioned architects to lay out Lazienki as a garden. The King's greatest addition was the Palace on the Water (Palac na Wodzie), which was designed by Dominik Merlini and completed in 1793. Today, Lazienki Park serves as a getaway for many of Warsaw's residents. The gates of the Lazienki Park are open from dusk until dawn and the admission is free of charge.
